Methods and solutions set by the KYOTO Protocol are difficult to implement. Nature Air had to decipher the text and find a way to go about this.
Nature Air offsets 4650 tons of carbon dioxide, the equivalent product of roughly 470,000 gallons of fuel used for 2004 operations.
Nature Air spent months reviewing both local as well as international certification programs.
We decided that the following additional criteria were important to us:
Local presence
Credibility
Philanthropic and Humanitarian Benefits
Transparency
We chose FONAFIFO as a certification agent .
The National Fund for Forest Financing (FONAFIFO) is an office assigned by Department of the Environment and Energy (MINAE).
FONAFIFO focuses in two specific activities: provide the financing to the environmental productive sector, especially the forest and the execution of the Payment Program for Environmental Services (PSA).
•We chose to support the protection of carbon sinks (primary and secondary forest in the Osa Peninsula).
In the period of 1995-2004 they were able to incorporate more than 420.000 hectares of forests and forest plantations that directly benefited more than 7000 families in Costa Rica.
•Our first investment assured the conservation of hectares per 5 year.
