quick facts

golfito is the administrative center and capital for the southern region. the town was founded by the United Fruit Company in 1938 and thrived for many decades, with elegant housing and “avenues” for its plantation managers. After United Fruit ceased their operations in 1985, the town slipped back into obscurity until it once again was founded in the 1990’s by surfers, ecotourists, fishers and adventurers.Taxis and boats are the main source of transportation.
